3DLABS Semiconductor and the DMS-02 Media Processor Nominated by EDN Magazine in its 17th annual Innovation of the Year Awards
26 February 2007 : 3DLABS Semiconductor's DMS-02 media processor has been selected from a field of hundreds as a finalist for this year's EDN Innovation Awards. Instituted in 1990, the Innovation Awards honor the products and technologies that have shaped the semiconductor industry over the past year.
The DMS-02 Media Processor was selected as a finalist in the Multimedia IC category where nominees must have demonstrated innovation that resulted in a significant advance in technology and/or product development during the past 12 months.
Detailed nomination criteria for the DMS-02 can be viewed at:
3DLABS will be demonstrating the DMS-02 at the CeBIT tradshow in Hannover, Germany 15-21 March and can be found on the Tele Atlas booth, Hall 11 - Stand D37.
"Our 2006 roster of Innovation finalists includes great products across the analog, digital, software, and test spaces. We received a tremendous set of mixed-signal ASSP entries, and more processor entries than ever," states EDN Editor-In-Chief Maury Wright. "I look forward to the rigorous voting process and know that the winners will be top notch."Based on a fully programmable array of floating-point processors the DMS-02 is the first handheld media processor capable of HD 720p H.264 video playback and fully exploits the parallel nature of traditional video, image, audio, 2D/3D graphics and signal processing while having the flexibility to adapt to emerging standards and applications such as software GPS, software defined radio, digital media broadcast and physics processing for game engines.
The DMS-02 incorporates 24 floating-point processing elements, dual ARM® 926EJ cores, multi-level caches, three bi-directional video stream ports, 32 or 64-bit mobile memory for up to 1.6 GBytes of bandwidth and peripheral interfaces to LCDs, CMOS sensors, IDE Disks, USB OTG, Flash memory and Audio DACs. The device is OS independent with first Software Development Kits supporting embedded Linux 2.6.
